Those Saturdays waiting for Match of the Day sound so much like my childhood experience, except it was just me and my dad waiting to catch the highlights, there wasn't too much risk of spoilers. I come from a sport crazy household and love American football and football in equal measure. I will definitely be watching the Super Bowl, I never miss it (only once in the past 40-odd years)

Enjoyed this timely post! My favorite thing about Andy is that he also does not care about sports and the superbowl (other than the pizza and snacks part). Thanks for a lovely Sunday! xx

Which frees him up to create amazing pizza for other people to eat, Meredith, so that's another win! Glad you enjoyed the post and, yes, wasn't Sunday fun? Let's do it again soon ...

This was laugh-out-loud funny for me. I loved the opening especially, and will quote it to friends. Well done!

Praise indeed, Mary! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it, that makes me feel very happy!

Love this so much. The part about cheering for the Cowboys while everyone else was going for the Rams is comedy gold. Finding someone who shares ur specific brand of non-enthusiasm feels like such an underrated form of compatability especially when the rest of the world seems so invested inthings that leave you cold.

That's a very good point, Neural Foundry. I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on whether shared non-enthusiasms form deeper bonds than shared enthusiasms? Glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for commenting.

We very much share views. I find sport pointless and definitely not something one should participate in. From being forced at school, strongly against my wishes, into "playing" sports, onwards, I've never watched a football match. Or, indeed any kind of match.

You too, Bob? I actually admire the idea of sports and can see that it's a wonderful thing in many ways for people who like it, I just can't find a way to do so myself. And I find big matches actively uncomfortable to watch because I'm always thinking, "Yes, but the other team were also good enough to have gotten this far and now they have to go home and face their fans without the trophy." Which probably speaks to some fanatically competitive spirit in me, buried so deep that even I am unable to access it! Hey ho ...

I salute your right to do so, Daniel! Personally, I detested every single thing about Match of the Day, so much so that some years ago when I went to see that excellent, sweet-natured, very funny film Bend It Like Beckham, and the very first scene started with the dreaded theme tune - da-da-da-DA-da-da-da-da-da - I very nearly walked out. Happy to say I didn't because it's a delight of a film ...

I got a good chickle.out of this story. My poor father lived with three females and had to enjoy his love of all sports alone. I do fondly remember going to baseball games with him as a child and he would patiently teach me how to fill out a scorecard during the game. Football I hated even though he had LA Colosseum 50 yard line tickets and paid $2 to park in someones front yard.. I was quite surprised years ago when the Rams returned to LA and then went on to win a Stuper Bowl that he didn't come out of the grave to celebrate. My husband carries my dad's torch of fanatacism .of all sports. For years I enjoyed watching sports, Dodgers, USC football, but alas now the Super Bowl, World Series are.days I enjoy a.day by myself. Thanks for rekindling these memories.
