Wow! He really went on! With his repeating of this is America not England and go back to England statements makes me wonder if he was a trump supporter.. and Marjorie Taylor green said the exact same thing to a British reporter. Did you ever order from there again?
Oddly enough, we found ourselves patronizing other establishments after that! I count myself lucky as an immigrant because I'm usually treated pretty well - being a nice safe Caucasian obviously helps, of course. But, yes, I do occasionally notice when I'm expressing a contrary view of politics than another person, they will tell me I "don't understand America." Which always strikes me as one step up from "Yer ma wears army boots," but only one.
Having an American accent in the UK works differently. You can get away with doing stupid things because, as soon as someone hears your apology or defence, they know you're an idiot.
Interesting comment, Alan, from an American-raised, London-dwelling college professor! We must discuss next time we're on the same part of the same continent.... one day.
It's lovely to have had some comments, and I'm interested to note that they're mostly from people who have emigrated one way or the other. I'm now wondering if anyone else has an accent to which people react? Want to tell me your stories?
Wow! " don't understand America"! So rude. SMH. See, this is why I rarely leave my house.:-)

Thanks for the laugh!
I'm glad it cheered you up, my Dutch-American friend!

Oh, you don't have to leave your house to be insulted, Karen! See above ...
